Specifications

What we actually knit

A knitted fabric is only as good as the numbers behind it. Every article DG Knitting catalogues carries a measured GSM, a finished width and a stated composition — not a range borrowed from a supplier's brochure. That matters because a garment costed at 220 GSM and delivered at 195 GSM changes the drape, the hand feel and the cost per piece, and the person who finds out is your customer.

Circular knit — the working range

Circular knitting is where most of our volume sits: catalogued articles across fake cotton, full dull polyester and PV blends, running from 140 GSM lightweights up to 300 GSM heavy-weights. Fake cotton is the most requested family — a polyester construction engineered to handle and drape like cotton while holding shade and shape far better than open-end cotton across a repeat programme. Lightweight qualities go into polos, shirts and tunics. Mid-weights between 180 and 240 GSM cover co-ord sets and loungewear. Heavy-weights above 240 GSM become sweatshirts, hoodies and joggers.

Warp knit and flat knit

Warp knitting gives a run-resistant, dimensionally stable fabric, which is why it goes into curtains, mesh, sportswear and upholstery rather than jersey bodies. Flat knitting handles the shaped pieces — collars, cuffs and neck tapes knitted to match the garment they finish, rather than cut from a running length. Both are made to order against your specification.

How a quality is verified before it ships

Fabric is measured in our own lab, not sent out for it. GSM is checked on a cutter and balance, dimensional stability after wash is recorded, colour fastness is tested on a crockmeter, and abrasion resistance is run on a Martindale tester. Rolls are then inspected under a four-point system before packing. The point of testing in-house is speed — a shade or a weight that drifts gets caught on the machine that day rather than in a report three weeks later.

Questions buyers ask

Knitted fabric FAQs

What GSM range does DG Knitting produce?

We knit from 140 GSM up to 300 GSM. Lightweight qualities under 180 GSM suit polos, shirts and tunics; mid-weights of 180 to 240 GSM cover co-ord sets and loungewear; heavy-weights above 240 GSM are used for sweatshirts, hoodies and joggers. Every article is measured on a GSM cutter and balance in our own lab before dispatch.

What is the minimum order quantity for knitted fabric?

Production runs are quoted per colour and per quality. Sampling yardage is available from the catalogued circular knit articles, and dyed bulk is scheduled against a confirmed shade approval. Send the garment, target GSM and quantity and you will get a quote with a lead time.

Does DG Knitting supply cotton or fake cotton fabric?

Both. The catalogue covers fake cotton — a polyester construction engineered to handle and drape like cotton at a lower and more stable price — along with PV and viscose blends, poly-cotton, polyester and lycra blends. Fake cotton is the most requested family because it holds shade and shape better than open-end cotton across repeat programmes.

Where is DG Knitting located and does it ship across India?

The mill is at 178/183, Ground Floor, Sangini Trade Centre, Surat-Kadodara Road, Saroli, Surat 395010, Gujarat. Fabric is dispatched to all Indian states and union territories, with export programmes planned for 2026-27.

How long does it take to get a fabric swatch?

Swatches from the catalogued articles are usually couriered within one working day of the enquiry being confirmed. Each swatch card carries the article code, composition, finished width and measured GSM, so the specification can be checked against your tech pack.

Does DG Knitting make warp knit fabric for corporate uniforms?

Yes. The DG WRP range is nine warp knit articles in 100% polyester, 58 to 60 inch, from 160 GSM shirting up to 300 GSM jacketing. It covers warp-tex flat suiting that holds a crease like a woven, brushed suede-touch for blazers and staff jackets, melange streak that reads as worsted wool for school and uniform trousers, ottoman cord, fine rib for staff polos and pitching for business-casual shirting. Warp knit does not fray at the cut edge, stays dimensionally stable and wears near iron-free through daily laundering, which is why uniform contractors specify it over woven poly-viscose.

What is DG Knitting's monthly production capacity?

350 tonnes per month across more than 100 circular, warp and flat knitting machines, which is what makes repeat programmes and reorders in the same shade practical rather than a one-off.
