Knitted fabric for T-shirts and polos is normally specified between 140 and 240 GSM. Lighter weights from 140 to 180 GSM suit summer tees and inner layers; 180 to 240 GSM covers everyday and oversized tees, polos and casual tops. DG Knitting knits this band at 60 inch width in fake cotton, full dull polyester and PV blends from its Surat mill, with a minimum order of 500 kg and a 7 to 14 day lead time.
What to specify

Best for
Watch out for
140–170 GSM
Summer tees, inner layers, kidswear
Can show through in light shades; check opacity
170–200 GSM
Standard everyday T-shirts
The safe default for most programmes
200–240 GSM
Oversized tees, polos, structured casual tops
Enough body to hold a collar and placket
Polos need more than the body fabric
A polo is only as good as its trim. Collars, cuffs and neck tapes are flat-knitted, not
circular-knitted, and when they are sourced from a different supplier the shades rarely match
across a full colour range. DG Knitting runs flat knitting in-house alongside circular, so
body fabric and trim are knitted and dyed to the same standard.
Choosing a composition
Fake cotton — polyester with a brushed or peach finish. Cotton
handfeel with polyester’s shade consistency and low shrinkage. The most commonly
specified option in this band.
Full dull polyester — high titanium dioxide yarn that removes filament
shine, for a deep matte, high-opacity surface. Specified when the garment must not read as
synthetic.
PV / viscose blend — softer drape and better breathability than full
polyester, at a higher cost per kilogram.
